Well Caleb, you're four months old and Mommy has yet to write in your baby book since you were born or even start a journal. Of course, for two years Isabella has detailed information documented, photos galore, and her baby book up to date. I know it's typical for the first child to get more, but I had no intention of being typical for you! I absolutely adore you, son. Right now it is five in the morning and neither one of us is sleepy, so while your dad and sister sleep, I'll try to catch up on you and our family. And google the dangers of sucking your thumb. Why do you hate the pacifier and love your fingers, especially your thumb? It stresses your mommy as I look into the future at expensive dental bills and worry that you'll develop a habit we can't break before you go to school. Goodness.
At four months, your favorite things are eating, eating, and eating more, smiling the most beautiful smile, chewing your fingers-even your entire hand, laughing at your mommy, trying to watch the TV, waking up early, and watching everything your sister does. You are a man of extremes. You either love your activity mat or you hate it. Same with the Jumperoo, reading, tummy time, and just about anything. You are either the happiest baby or screaming til you are purple! There is no wimpering or fussing. It is either smiles and laughing or loud protests leading quickly to screams. I think we'll always know where you stand!
You weigh about 16 lbs. We'll go for your four month check up next week and find out how much you've grown. I think your weight has leveled out, but you keep getting longer and longer. You have grown so fast. During your first month, you grew three inches and gained three pounds! You're now wearing 9 month clothes, with a few 6-9 and even some 12 months things fitting too. We just moved you from the bassinet in our room into your crib, but it may have been too early. You aren't sleeping through the night yet-again with the eating all the time! But you seem too big for the bassinet, especially now that you like to roll over.
I can't believe how lucky I am. I watch you and your sister, and I find myself smiling. I remember after Isabella was born I read a quote that said having a child is like having your heart walk around outside your body for the rest of your life. That is unbelievably true. True unconditional love is amazing, and I love you both more than life itself. Now let's try to get some sleep.
